17 reported dead in Aurora flash flood

At least 17 people were reported dead due to flash floods and a landslide
that hit some towns in Aurora Province about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, DZMM
reported.


The report said the sudden rise of water, brought by torrential rains due to
Typhoon Unding, has swept away a still-unconfirmed number of people.


Col. Ella Aldea, Executive Director of the National Disaster Coordinating
Committee, said affected are the towns of Casiguran, Dingalan, San Luis and
at least three barangays (villages) in Baler.


A landslide was also reported in Dingalan, the hardest-hit town, as it is
located at the foot of a mountain and near the ocean.


Aldea said some families have already been sent to evacuation centers, but
many are still on the roofs of their houses, or holding on to trees to avoid
being washed away by the torrent of high-level waters.


Rescue teams from the military air force arrived earlier to undertake rescue
operations for affected families, but turned back due to difficulty in
negotiating.


Neri Amparo chief operations officer of the Office of Civil Defense, said
the two choppers dispatched for search and rescue operations went back to
Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija as they cannot penetrate the affected areas
due to strong rains and winds.

1. Create a website where Casiguranin OFWs can register and interact online. Xenos to help Senan in uploading contents of proposed website.
2. schedule meeting with Casiguranins at Naseem District.
3. set a regular CDC meeting.
4. Broaden CDC advocacy not jus the environment and political governance.
5. to discuss details of Dammam morey.
6. announce Saudi morey at The Filipino Channel - KSA.

1.) to form an Auroran Expatriates Middle East Association to expand
membership not only among fellow agtas but include Aurorans. Create an
interactive website for membership and other related web-services.

2.) hold 'morey' as soon as possible.

3.) provide creative and pro-active campaign strategies towards broader
issues and pressure government agencies and officials not just private
business interests.

4.) encourage political participation by agta professionals, former
expatriates, and retirees to offer wider and better alternative to the
electorate. Conduct massive education campaign.

5.) initiate fund-raising activities to finance CDC programs and come-up
with self-generating projects.

6.) propose Casiguran development programs to attract investments and
healthy tourism (ie; coding of public vehicles within poblacion, Ermita
viewing deck, Jose Angara and Marikit bridge and rotunda). Adopt best
practices from well-developed municipalities.

7.) provision for free sattelite and Internet services.

8.) reclaim the ownersship/title of the entire Ermita Hill as public
property/domain and to cancel/revoke all private claims/TCT in view and of
the cultural heritage/history of Casiguran. It is well know to everyone that
any private claim lacks basis and merit and prior to any legal documents
such historical site was deemed public and owned by 400-year oral history
and tradition.

8.) suggest to Provincial government increasing share of DICADI in the
provincial budgets and pork barrels.

9.) coordinate with other socio-civic organizations.

10.) moderate CDC mailist to encourage active participation

Dinner with Mr. Xenus Caruz and tour of fellow Casiguranins followed.
